Nestled in the central west of New South Wales, the Orange region is known for its quality local produce and excellent wines, thanks to its cool climate and rich volcanic soils. The produce here ranges from stone fruits and sheep milk cheeses to fungi and grapes, and a strong foodie scene has sprung up, with a string of food festivals and events bringing this agricultural hub to life year-round.
More than 50 cool-climate wineries operate in the area, and each year the region celebrates with F.O.O.D. Week (Food Of Orange District), with food-centric festivities taking place across the area, including Canowindra’s 100 mile dinner, a communal feast held in the town’s main street. There’s also the Orange Wine Festival held in October, with wine shows, tastings and food and wine workshops.
